Ribbon Skirts/Shirts Making
For Indigenous peoples, Ribbon Skirts, and Ribbon Shirts, are a symbol of resilience, survival, identity, and represent honour, respect, heritage, pride, and identification with one’s culture + given teaching(s).
Their meaning changes with each person who wears one sharing their identity proudly!
Join Clarissa Stevens, a proud Sioux from Stony Nakoda, in this FREE community building experience as she guides you to create your very own box style Ribbon Skirt (or Ribbon Shirt)… while storytelling about her life, and culture.
Audrey Martin, who's also facilitated her own Ribbon Skirt Making Workshop at Sunalta Heritage Hall, will support Clarissa, and you by:
- Talking about Ribbon Skirts
- Share a short mindfulness exercise at the beginning to get us centred into the intentional activity
- Sewing support (answering questions, showing techniques, etc)
Neither Clarissa, Audrey, nor myself (Kent) will make your Ribbon Skirt for you... we're here to provide emotional, spiritual, and technical support
Sewing your Ribbon Skirt (or Shirt) to life, that's up to you :)
Ribbon Skirt Kits will be provided. They include fabric, an elastic band, and 4 ribbons.
