Beauty of Japan -- Nagomi Art + Modern Kintsugi (embrace imperfections) + DIY Sushi
NOTICE:
This is a new rule I'm implementing to ensure as many people to enjoy the "high value" of connection, collaboration, and growth that these community building experiences offer... and of course the content (whether it be crafting, food related, wellness related, woodworking, Indigenous culture, etc).

By participating in this community building experience, you are not eligible to register for the next two community building experiences I offer. The This rule will apply moving forward into 2026.

The next community building experience you'll be eligible to register will be in February or March (depends on what's planned for February 2026) -- details will be live online in the 2nd week of February.
Fyi, I'm a resident of Sunalta that organizes resident-driven community building experiences (as a volunteer, not paid).

I have no connection to the Sunalta Community Association which offers their own programming... however, I will be collaborating with them in Q1 2026 on a Food Literacy Series (more info on that to come).

NAGOMI ART:
Nagomi art is a Japanese form of art therapy that uses soft pastels and fingers to create calming and harmonious images.

The name "Nagomi" means "harmony," and the process is designed to promote a sense of peace, stress relief, and emotional healing. Odia will guide you as you blend pastel powders directly onto paper to create gentle gradients, with a focus on the therapeutic, and mindful creative process rather than the finished product.

KINTSUGI:
Kintsugi 金継ぎ, meaning "golden joinery", is an ancient Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with lacquer and gold. Cracks, called keshiki (景色), become part of the object's story. This ancient practice highlights resilience, sustainability, and the beauty of imperfection, while honouring history through visible repairs.

"Kintsugi from the heart" is a powerful metaphor for emotional healing. It symbolizes that vulnerability, scars, and repaired wounds create a more beautiful, resilient, and unique self, transforming pain into wisdom and strength rather than hiding flaws. It's a journey of embracing brokenness, seeing cracks as history, and rebuilding with self-love and acceptance

I'll guide you in discovering a modern version of the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold, transforming damage into beauty… we won’t use gold, something more accessible :)

We will follow the Japanese restoration technique using metal powder to mend cracks and chips, embodying Japan's cultural philosophy of cherishing and preserving treasured objects that hold history, and soul. Leave with a deeper appreciation for Japanese aesthetics and take home your own beautiful creation.

SUSHI MAKING:

If you love Sushi, want to learn how to make it, have fun, then this is for you.

There’s a twist to this balance of entertainment and education. We did this in June 2025, and it was a huge success! Kent will guide you as you use your non-dominant hand, and partner with someone to make Sushi.

No matter the outcome, you’ll gain a greater appreciation for the art of sushi making.

Most materials provided for Nagomi Art, Modern Kintsugi, and Sushi Making... we will ask you (via email) to bring a few items registration is complete.
