NOTICE: I'm a resident of Sunalta that has been organizing resident-driven community building experiences since May 2020 as a volunteer (not paid)... I do it as part of my community investment.
By participating in this community building experience, you are not eligible to register for the next two community building experiences that I offer at Sunalta Heritage Hall (or Community Hub).
This is a rule, in 2026, that I'm implementing to ensure as many people to enjoy the "high value" of connection, collaboration, and growth that these community building experiences offer... and of course the content (whether it be crafting, food related, wellness related, woodworking, Indigenous culture, etc).

In this FREE community building experience you’ll learn how to make your own Planter Box with guidance from Padgett Eastman… your Sunalta Handyman.
Registration Opens: Friday, April 10th @ 9am
Community Building Experience Date: Friday, May 22/26 -- from 6pm to 9pm
Venue:
Club Room @ Sunalta Heritage Hall -- if weather permits, will create in the park behind the Heritage Hall... we've held 4 out of the previous 5 summer woodworking community building experiences outside.

If you registered, and participated, for the April 12/26 (Upcycled Packaging) or May 10/26 (Homegrown Plant Medicines) community building experiences, then you're not eligible to register for this community building experience... this is alignment with my new rule for 2026.
DIY Planter Box Dimensions:
- Square Shape -- 2 feet length per side
- Depth is 18 inches
- Total Height (bottom of legs to top of Planter Box) is 3 feet
90% of Material Supplied:
- Wood: Pressure Treated Cedar
- Pre-Cut to specific sizes
- Pre-Cut to specific sizes
- Screws: Robertson Screws
- Wood Glue (for outdoor use)
- Sand Paper (Medium Grit)
Essentially, you'll be using our mock-up model as a guide, and screwing the pre-cut wood pieces together. If you are inclined to do so, you can stain, paint or decorate your Planter Box on your own at your home.
NOTE -- Getting your it home is your responsibility. Because of the size and weight of your finished Planter Box, make plans ahead of time to get it home.
If you currently have no vehicle, or are walking:
- Ask a friend to take you home in their vehicle
- Or Book an Uber
- Or take a Taxi
- Taking the Planter Box on Transit will be a challenge, if you don't mind the inconvenience, you can take the Blue Train across the street from the venue, and do from there to get home
